A cloudy fall week, and a chance of rain on Friday

Tuesday will be a cloudy but moderate day.

It will be comfortably cool on Tuesday, with a high of 66 degrees.

It will be cloudy most of the week, and our next chance for rain comes at the end of the week.

The region is witnessing a weak cold front that will continue until Tuesday night. So, Wednesday will be a little cooler, with a high of only 60 degrees. But temperatures rise again on Thursday.

We are seeing highs in the 60s to low 70s this week.

Thursday will reach 68 degrees, and by Friday we will see temperatures in the 70s.

No rain is in the forecast until Friday. We may see some light rain in the afternoon into Friday evening.

There is also a small chance of rain on Saturday, the day of Raleigh’s annual Christmas Parade. You may want to bring an umbrella or rain jacket, just to be safe.

Could rain affect Raleigh’s Christmas parade?

The Raleigh Christmas Parade is scheduled for Saturday, and there is a chance of rain Friday night. Right now, it looks like the sun will be out by Saturday morning with highs in the 60s in the afternoon. But we will monitor things closely.

“Next weekend looks great with sunshine on Saturday and Sunday and highs in the 60s,” WRAL Meteorologist Elizabeth Gardner said.

Drought conditions are worsening across North Carolina

WRAL meteorologists are tracking drought conditions worsening across the state.

Moderate drought has extended into North Carolina’s southern coastal plain, including Wilmington, and severe drought in western North Carolina now includes some of our southwestern communities.

“There has been no measurable rain in RDU since Halloween,” WRAL Meteorologist Amy Wilmoth said.

Three large wildfires burning in western North Carolina have burned more than 300 acres each. A state of emergency was in place, and the cities of Boone and Marion requested water conservation.

The North Carolina Forest Service has issued burn bans for 30 counties in western North Carolina.

The ban will be in effect “until further notice.”

Expectations for next week:

  • Tuesday: Mostly sunny. High near 65 degrees.
  • Wednesday: Partly sunny. High near 65 degrees.
  • Thursday: Mostly sunny. High near 67 degrees.
  • Friday: Mostly sunny, with a chance of rain in the evening. High near 69 degrees.
  • Saturday: The weather is partly cloudy with a chance of rain. High near 69 degrees.

Is there anything in the tropics?

One area in the southwest Caribbean Sea has a 20% chance of development in the next seven days. Models do not agree on where this system could go and whether it will actually evolve.

The US model expects the system to move through the Bahamas at the end of next week and then race to Bermuda next Sunday.

The Atlantic hurricane season runs from June 1 to November 30. The most active time is usually September through November, but it is possible to see a hurricane make landfall at any time of the year.
