A severe thunderstorm warning has been issued for Somerset County
SOMERSET COUNTY, NJ – A severe thunderstorm warning has been issued for Somerset County as a storm with 60 mph winds and hail approaches the area.
The National Weather Service (NWS) in Mount Holly has issued a severe thunderstorm warning until 3:45 PM on Friday.

Just before 3 p.m., a severe thunderstorm occurred over Allentown, or 8 miles east of Trenton, that could bring 60 mph winds and quarter-sized hail.
“Minor damage to vehicles is possible. Wind damage to roofs, siding, trees and power lines is possible,” according to the NWS.
NWS and Somerset County Public Safety shared the warning with the following guidance:
“For your protection, move to an interior room in the basement of the building. In addition to large hail and damaging winds, frequent cloud-to-ground lightning is occurring with this storm. Go indoors immediately. And remember, if you can hear thunder, ‘You’re close enough May lightning strike you. Heavy rain will occur with this storm, and may lead to flash flooding. Do not drive on flooded roads.”

Friday afternoon: Scattered rain and thunderstorms. Some storms can produce gusty winds. Mostly sunny, with a high near 91. Southwest wind around 5 mph. The probability of precipitation is 30 percent. New precipitation amounts range between a tenth and a quarter of an inch, with the exception of higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
Friday night: Scattered rain and thunderstorms. Some storms can produce gusty winds. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 68. East winds around 5 mph becoming calm in the evening. The probability of precipitation is 40 percent. New rainfall amounts are likely to be between a quarter and a half of an inch.
Saturday: Chance of rain and thunderstorms, especially after 3 pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 86. Winds calm becoming south at around 5 mph in the afternoon. The probability of precipitation is 50 percent. New precipitation amounts range between a tenth and a quarter of an inch, with the exception of higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
Saturday night: Rain and thunderstorms are likely, especially before 9 p.m. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 69. Southeast wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the evening. The probability of rain is 60 percent. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and a half of an inch are possible.
Sunday: A chance of showers and thunderstorms, then showers and possibly a thunderstorm after 3 p.m. High near 83. Winds light and variable, becoming southerly at 5 to 10 mph in the afternoon. The probability of precipitation is 80 percent. New rainfall amounts are likely to be between a quarter and a half of an inch.
Sunday night: Showers and possibly a thunderstorm, especially before 3am, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 3am. Low around 67. Chance of rain 80%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and a half of an inch are possible.
