Areas that will receive rain this week
Several counties are expected to see rain this week, according to the latest weather forecast from the Kenya Meteorological Department.
The seven-day forecast covering the period from 12 to 18 September indicates that provinces in the highlands west of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin and the Rift Valley are expected to receive morning rain in a few places at the beginning of the forecast period.
It includes Kisii, Nyamira, Nandi, Kericho, Bomet, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Siaya, Kisumu, Homabai, Busia, Migori, Narok, Baringo, Nakuru, Trans-Nzoia, Uasin-Gishu, Elgeyo-Marakwet and West-Pokot counties. . . .
“Rain and thunderstorms are likely to occur in the afternoon in several places and decrease to a few places as the forecast period progresses. The forecast indicates overnight rain in some places.
During the forecast period, maximum daytime temperatures in Kisumu will reach 29°C with minimum temperatures reaching 18°C.
Counties in the highlands east of the Rift Valley, including Nairobi, Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu and Tharaka-Nithi, are expected to be cloudy in the morning, giving way to sunny spells.
“Rain is likely in the afternoon and night in a few places at the beginning of the forecast period,” she says.
Daytime maximum temperatures are expected to rise to around 28°C in Thika and drop to 07°C in Nyahururu at night.
Turkana and Samburu counties in northwestern Kenya will enjoy sunny days and partly cloudy nights during the forecast period.
“However, occasional afternoon rain may occur at a few places during the first half of the forecast period,” says the meteorologist.
Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa and Isiolo counties in north-eastern Kenya will record sunny days and partly cloudy nights with temperatures rising to 38°C in Mandera and falling to 16°C in Marsabit.
The southeastern lowland counties of Machakos, Kitui, Makueni, Kajiado and Taita Taveta are expected to experience sunny days and partly cloudy nights.
“However, occasional afternoon rain may occur at a few places during the first half of the forecast period,” the forecast says.
On the other hand, the coastal counties of Mombasa, Tana River, Kilifi, Lamu and Kwale are expected to be sunny during the day and partly cloudy during the night.
However, forecasts indicate that occasional morning showers may occur in some areas, and daytime maximum temperatures are expected to reach 31°C in Lamu.
Daytime maximum temperatures are expected to rise to around 30°C in Mombasa, and nighttime minimum temperatures are expected to drop to 22°C.
