Autumn-like temperatures and some rain

Although we still have a little over a week of summer left, the weather this weekend will feel like fall. Sun and showers are expected through the weekend in the Upper Peninsula and northern Lower Michigan, with temperatures remaining on the cool side during the day and night.

Friday is expected to be a dry day for northern Lower Michigan and the eastern Upper Peninsula, with partly to mostly cloudy skies during the day and increasing clouds as we head into Friday evening. The western region is expected to witness cloudy skies and rain showers during the day on Friday, and the rain will end by the evening, leaving the sky overcast. High temperatures will be in the mid 60s to low 70s in the Upper Peninsula, with areas in the lower north reaching the mid 70s.

Showers will continue to move across the Upper Peninsula into the eastern region Friday night, with some rain also arriving south into the lower north. Barring rain, skies are still expected to be overcast, with low temperatures dropping to the mid-50s by Saturday morning. Some areas of western UP away from the lakes could dip into the upper 40s.

Saturday will be a mostly cloudy day for UP and a partly cloudy day for the Lower North with scattered showers across the Upper and Northern Peninsula in the late afternoon and into the evening hours. Some widespread thunderstorms, especially in the lower north, are possible by Saturday evening, so be weather aware if you have any outdoor plans. High temperatures are expected to be in the upper 60s to lower 70s in UP, with the northern lower reaching the low 70s in the afternoon.

Scattered rain will continue until Saturday night over the entire region, in addition to cloudy skies. Low temperatures will reach the mid 50s overnight, with some areas of western UP dipping into the upper 40s. Some patches of cloud cover may occur in the Upper Peninsula overnight, but skies will remain mostly cloudy.

Sunday is the main rain day for the Lower Peninsula, with the lower north expected to experience rain throughout the day and cloudy skies. The Upper Peninsula will be under partly to mostly cloudy skies all day, and although some scattered showers are possible, it won’t throw off the plan. High temperatures will be in the mid to upper 60s for the entire area.

By Sunday night, the rain should be out of the area, leaving us dry with partly to mostly cloudy skies. Low temperatures will be on the cool side, dropping into the low to mid 40s in the Upper Peninsula, and upper 40s to low 50s in the lower north.

Overall, the weather this weekend will be decent. Some rain is possible, but that won’t put a damper on your weekend plans too much. Just be sure to bring some jackets and long sleeves for the cooler and wetter moments.
