Summary of forecasts

It’s September weather at its best these past few days, with cool, comfortable overnight lows near 50 degrees, and moderate afternoon highs in the mid-70s, with plenty of sunshine throughout. Without a small bump along the way of nice weather for Sunday and Sunday night when our only chance of wet weather arrives, it’s perfect September weather for Saturday, and for most of next week as well. Hurricane Lee will pass hundreds of miles to the east over the next 24 hours, providing only a brisk breeze and some big waves and rough currents along the coast. After a nice Saturday, a cold front approaches later Sunday and will bring more clouds and some rain into the second half of the weekend. Although the rain will not be heavy, there will be occasional showers on Sunday and Sunday, before the skies clear on Monday and sunny, comfortable, dry and pleasant weather returns for most of next week, with temperatures in the 70s during the day and 50s at night until Autumn begins next Saturday.

Detailed forecasts

Saturday

This will be the best day of the weekend, as rain chances increase on Sunday. Look for partly to mostly sunny skies, with some high clouds mixed in with sunshine especially north and east of the Lehigh Valley. There will be a little northwesterly breeze, around 10-20 mph, with Hurricane Lee to our east and north. However, expect high waves and currents if you’re at the beach on the last weekend of summer (fall officially begins next Saturday, September 23). Highs will be in the to mid 70s, with humidity levels still refreshingly low. Skies should be clear to partly cloudy Saturday night, with overnight temperatures dropping into the upper 40s as winds diminish.

Sunday

While we may start Sunday with some sunshine, it now looks like there will be an early arrival of clouds and rain chances, as early as midday Sunday through the afternoon. It also looks a little wetter than a few days ago, not snowing but with a few rounds of rain Sunday afternoon and overnight, likely getting about a quarter of an inch of rain on average. Highs will be in the low 70s, with mornings drier and better and afternoons cloudier and more humid. Although Sunday’s forecast has become more pessimistic, it is still the only chance of rain in the forecast for all of next week.

next week

Expect clouds to mix in with some sunshine on Monday with some persistent rain throughout the day. Highs will be in the mid 70s with skies gradually improving later in the day. For the rest of the week, look for partly or mostly sunny skies as high pressure controls our weather pattern. Highs will mainly remain in the mid to lower 70s each afternoon and humidity will remain a non-factor. Overnight lows will remain nice and comfortable for sleeping and generally in the 50s.
