Canton can expect slippery road conditions and 2-4 inches of snow

The National Weather Service is forecasting an additional 2 to 4 inches of snow accumulation today in the Canton area.

A winter weather advisory remains in effect until 4 p.m. Saturday for Stark, Portage, Trumbull and Mahoning counties.

The Meteorological Service advises motorists to plan for slippery road conditions, with dangerous conditions potentially affecting their commute in the morning and evening.

Stark County Engineer’s Office crews began working on county roads at midnight Friday, spokesman Dustin Brown said.

“There’s a little bit of snow on it, but it’s definitely drivable,” he said. “You just have to drive according to the road conditions. Obviously you have to drive a little slower. Be careful on the hills.”

He said county road crews will continue working until the snow stops falling and the streets are safe.

Motorists commenting on Facebook reported clear travel conditions between Stark County and Akron, with one person saying a relative who traveled to Cleveland said, “It wasn’t too bad.”

No major problems were reported on roads in Stark County. State Route 43 between North Canton and downtown Canton was wet to slushy in parts, but fair. Traffic was light and moving normally. In Canton, the sidewalk on NE 12th Street at Walnut Avenue was wet.

Widespread snowfall is expected to continue through this afternoon across Northeast Ohio before transitioning to lake effect snow overnight.
