Capital Area Forecast: Warm again today with a wetter pattern emerging

A somewhat subjective assessment of today’s weather, on a scale of 0 to 10.

7/10: More cloudy than recently. Mild and dry enough for outdoors, though!

  • today: partly cloudy. Afternoon shower? Highs: Low to mid 60s.
  • Tonight: Mostly cloudy. Lows: Mid to upper 40s.
  • tomorrow: – Scattered rain showers, especially in the south of the country. Heights: 51-56.

It’s been a stormy winter until the last 10 days or so. With this in mind, it should come as no surprise that we are once again heading into a less calm pattern going forward. Any rain today is fairly insignificant. This may not be the case on Sunday especially as the storm passes late Monday into early Tuesday. At the moment, there are still no real snow threats to worry about.

today is Saturday): Lots of clouds during the day. Some showers may move around, especially in the afternoon. They don’t amount to much, if that. Highs should end in the low to mid 60s in most locations. Winds are blowing from the south about 5 to 10 mph. Confidence: medium-high

Tonight: There could be a shower early, but most of the night will be dry. The cold front will dip to the south late, helping shift winds from the north at dawn. Lows are mainly in the mid 40s and upper. Confidence: medium-high

It may be the case that any large objects remain south of the city, but perhaps as little as a tenth of an inch close by and perhaps less to the north. Behind the front, with clouds and some rain, temperatures are heading into the low 50s. Confidence: average

Tomorrow night: Any rain from the day should end at night. The weather will remain cloudy with lows ending in the upper 30s to mid 40s. Confidence: average

The clouds should still be numerous at first Monday. The chances of precipitation rise over time. The best chance for moderate to occasionally heavy rain will likely be late in the day and into the night as a low pressure area approaches from the south and west. It will likely approach or slightly above 50 for daytime highs, then drop into the mid 30s to near 40 at night as rain continues. Confidence: average

The rain may end with some wet snow appearing early Tuesday In the morning, especially north and west of Interstate 95. Since almost everyone has to stay above freezing, don’t plan on doing it too often. Rainfall ends during the morning before a blustery afternoon with highs in the mid or upper 40s.
