Capital Region Forecast: Scattered rain and continuing storms today

Updated at 10 am: Fairly light scattered rain so far. It’s cooler and more stable today around D.C. (some locations may not exceed the upper 70s). This is supposed to lead to less or heavy rain like yesterday. But heavy rain is still possible at times and it cannot be ruled out that some of them could turn into thunderstorms as we get a little warm this afternoon.

A somewhat subjective assessment of today’s weather, on a scale of 0 to 10.

3/10: Another day of sporadic rain and storms might have us saying, “Rain, rain, go” (or at least come back on a weekday).

  • today: Mostly cloudy. Scattered showers/storms. Highs: Low to mid 80s.
  • Tonight: Rain/storms are possible at times. Lows: upper 60s.
  • tomorrow: Partly sunny. Isolated shower/storm in the evening? Highs: Low to mid 80s.

A disturbing front and an emerging low pressure area keep rain chances persisting today and tonight. Some storms can produce periods of heavy rain and isolated flooding. Fewer rains and storms are expected from Monday to Tuesday, but some remain possible at times, before chances of rain rise again late Tuesday through early Wednesday with monsoon temperatures.

Intermittent rain and thunderstorms do not have the potential for high winds and hail like yesterday, but some can produce heavy rain and lightning. For Commanders, and really any outdoor event today, it’s hard to pinpoint the timing and location of these types of rain and storms more than a few hours in advance. Be prepared to get wet but hope for the best, and check back for updates.

Tomorrow night: The chances of rain diminish in the late evening and overnight, giving way to partly cloudy skies and lows in the mid-60s to highs. Confidence: average

Tuesday It should be partly sunny to most of the day for most of the day with highs in the mid-80s, but rain or an isolated afternoon storm cannot be ruled out. Rain and storm chances increase again Tuesday evening Wednesday In the morning as the cold front approaches. Clouds and rain potential limit Wednesday’s highs to the upper 70s and low 80s with a dry afternoon or evening trend. Confidence: low-medium
