Capital Region Forecast: Seasonally warm with plenty of sunshine through Saturday

A somewhat subjective assessment of today’s weather, on a scale of 0 to 10.

10/10: I like moderate warmth at this point in September, even with a noticeable breeze. More please! (Recognizing that we need more rain, too.)

  • today: Sunny and breezy. Highs: Mid to upper 70s.
  • Tonight: Clear, less breezy. Lows: High 40s to mid 50s.
  • tomorrow: Sunny, light breeze. Highs: upper 70s to low 80s.
  • Sunday: A few showers. Partly sunny. Highs: mid 70s to near 80.

Comfortable, moderate warmth through tomorrow as we enjoy fall conditions in D.C. Lots of sun! It looks like the only period with chances for clouds and (welcome) rain for the foreseeable future is Sunday into Sunday night. Humidity is rising slightly as well.

Sunday: As the low pressure area in the Midwest approaches us, some clouds and rain are possible. Nothing is quite as heavy as it looks now, but moderate and quick rain or storms cannot be ruled out – especially in the middle of the day and into the afternoon. Partial cloud cover at times helps limit temperatures in the mid-70s to near 80 degrees. Dew points rising towards 60 degrees mean there is a tinge of humidity again. Confidence: average

Sunday night: Showers, storms and even downpours may remain possible late into the night. Somewhat humid low temperatures may drop into the upper 50s to only 60s. Confidence: average

The fair weather is trying to re-establish itself Monday and Tuesday, With comfort in the upper 70s to low 80s common. Sunshine will generally dominate outside of rain showers – perhaps pop-up thundershowers in the afternoon – possible on Monday. Confidence: average
