Capital Region Forecast: Warmer than normal weather returns

A somewhat subjective assessment of today’s weather, on a scale of 0 to 10.

8/10: Temperatures are rising into the 70s, despite cloudy skies.

Temperatures will fluctuate somewhat over the next few days, but the weather is generally pleasant with highs in the 60s and 70s. A front late this week will bring some rain, but it won’t be enough to significantly ease our growing drought. The weekend becomes cooler and drier with a brief return to below normal temperatures.

Although there are more clouds than yesterday, the humidity remains low, so the warmth is comfortable (dew points are well below the 40s). Thursday It features another bout of warmer winds with highs reaching the 70s. Some sites can reach 80 (the area record is 79 since 1994). Humidity will be slightly higher than Tuesday, but still relatively low by summer standards. There is a slight chance of rain, but we should mainly stay dry. Thursday night brings cloudy skies with lows in the upper 40s to mid 50s. Chances of light showers increase late at night. Confidence: medium-high

Friday It is our wettest day of the week with cloudy skies with highs hovering in the 50s. Rainfall rather than constant rain is expected, so we should see some dry spells rather than washouts. Friday night could feature a few light showers in the evening as skies remain mostly cloudy and lows reach the mid 30s in our cooler areas to near 40 degrees in the city with breezy conditions. Highs are in the lower 50s in our western and northwest suburbs and closer to the mid 50s around the city and pointing to the east and south.
