MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) – The City of Mobile is delaying some city services and office openings, as well as delaying the weekly City Council meeting, due to the winter weather forecast for Tuesday morning.
Also, the Mobile County Commission will delay the opening of county offices until 11 a.m. Tuesday.
Due to impending freezing conditions and the potential for ice on roads and bridges, all City of Mobile offices will remain closed until 10 a.m. Tuesday.
Regularly scheduled meetings of the Mobile City Council will also be postponed. The preliminary council meeting will begin at 10 a.m., and the city council meeting will begin at 11:30 a.m
“Our leadership team will continue to monitor the situation and re-evaluate conditions in the morning,” the city said in a statement.
Due to the potential for icy road conditions, trash and trash pickup services in Mobile will also be delayed Tuesday morning. Any incomplete routes will be made up on Saturday, January 20th.
Mobile County State Courts, which includes circuit and county courts, will be adjourned until 9 a.m. Tuesday. Those who report for jury duty and other court proceedings previously scheduled at 8 a.m. should arrive at 9 a.m. tomorrow.
The mobile municipal court was scheduled to hear two cases at 8 a.m. Tuesday. Due to the delayed opening of city offices, these arguments are now scheduled to begin at 10 a.m
Due to the constant threat of freezing temperatures, The Mobile Agile Planning workshop scheduled for Wednesday, January 17 has been cancelled. A new date for the workshop will be set at a later date.
The city advises that updates will be provided as officials evaluate conditions through the morning.
The Mobile County Commission also said that if conditions warrant, county crews are prepared to salt bridges in affected areas.
Motorists are advised to limit travel while there is ice on the roads.
Due to the potential for slippery road conditions, Prichard city offices will not be open until 10 a.m. Tuesday morning.
Trash and dumpster services in the city of Prichard will also be postponed Tuesday morning.
Updates will be provided as we evaluate conditions in the morning, Prichard officials said.
Due to hazardous winter conditions expected in Mobile and surrounding areas, Mobile Community Action administrative offices, Head Start centers and community service centers will be closed on Tuesday. Regular business hours will resume at 8 a.m. Wednesday.
