Clouds will increase, with highs in the 70s on Thursday

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) – Good morning and happy Thursday!

Temperatures are about ten degrees higher than at this time yesterday. Most of us are in our mid to upper forties. All you’ll need this morning is a light jacket to keep you warm. First Alert from AccuTrack satellite and radar It appears mostly clear to us, but we are seeing clouds to our west that will accumulate in our area today.

Hourly forecast today(WBRC)

The weather will likely be mostly cloudy to cloudy this afternoon. The good news is that we will stay dry today. Temperatures should quickly rise to the mid 70s this afternoon with southeast winds 5 to 10 mph. It must be a beautiful day to spend time outside. You’ll likely want to limit your time outside if you suffer from allergies. Tree pollen will remain high. If you have any evening plans, we will likely remain cloudy and dry with temperatures dropping to the mid 60s by 8 p.m.

Another important thing: The big story tomorrow is the chance of seeing several showers at any time during the day. The rain will be accompanied by an area of low pressure that will move across the southeast tomorrow. The low will remain to our south, so we will likely remain cloudy with cooler temperatures due to easterly winds. We will likely wake up tomorrow morning in the 50s with a 20% chance of scattered showers.

I think our rain chance increases Friday afternoon and evening as the low inch approaches Alabama. I’m not expecting rain tomorrow, but I plan on having light to steady rain from time to time. Rain and cloud cover will likely keep high temperatures in the lower 60s Friday afternoon. The rain will likely hold off Friday evening into early Saturday morning. Rainfall totals will likely reach about a half inch to an inch. Higher totals will be possible in southeast Alabama. I highly recommend grabbing an umbrella and wearing a rain jacket if you plan on going out on a Friday night. Temperatures will likely cool into the upper 50s Friday at 7 p.m

Decreasing clouds Saturday: Saturday morning will be cloudy with lingering showers before 9 a.m. Cloud cover is expected to lower Saturday afternoon making skies partly cloudy. Temperatures will likely start in the low to mid 50s. We should end up with mostly sunny skies late in the day. High temperatures will remain slightly below average with most of us temps in the mid 60s. Our average high this time of year is 69 degrees Fahrenheit.

Cold Sunday morning: With mostly clear skies and northerly winds, temperatures will likely end up getting colder Sunday morning. We could see morning temperatures in the upper 30s and lower 40s across central Alabama. Parts of northern Alabama could see a patchy frost with temperatures in the mid-30s. Sunday will likely start out mostly clear, but we expect increasing clouds late in the day. Sunday afternoon looks mostly cloudy with highs nearing the upper 60s and lower 70s. The good news is that we have to stay dry.

I look forward: Next Monday we will start out dry with temperatures near average. Monday morning will likely start out mostly cloudy with temperatures in the upper 40s. High temperatures are expected to rise into the upper 60s on Monday. Monday will likely have a breezy end to the day as our next storm develops to the west. The big story next week is the arrival of a cold front that will impact our area Monday night into Tuesday.

The other important thing

We will likely see a good chance of showers and possibly some thunderstorms. Severe weather remains low in this setting, but we will likely see heavy rain with gusty winds. I wouldn’t be surprised if we see heavy pockets of rain with winds gusting up to 30 to 40 mph. We will likely dry out Tuesday night with drier conditions expected Wednesday and Thursday.
