Conditions are improving after tropical storm force winds hit South Florida
WEST PALM BEACH, FL – After a brutal night of gusty tropical winds across Palm Beach County and the Treasure Coast, conditions are improving as we head into Thursday afternoon.
“The general trend will be that things are basically getting better today and much better by tomorrow,” WPTV meteorologist Kate Wentzel said.
A high wind warning is currently in effect for coastal areas of the Treasure Coast until 1pm on Thursday, meaning we could see wind gusts of up to 60mph.
A storm warning is also in effect until 1pm Thursday off the Treasure Coast, with wind gusts of 60 mph and sea heights ranging from 7 to 12 feet. This means that all sea vessels must remain in port.
Finally, a wind warning for East Palm Beach County and a flood watch for the Treasure Coast are in effect until 7 p.m. Thursday.

Our viewing areas are still seeing the effects of this system as it withdraws from Florida, but we will continue to see conditions improve over the next 24 hours, Wentzel said.
Wind is now the main influence, WPTV meteorologist Jennifer Correia said.
“Think of this storm as a nor’easter in the south,” Correa said, adding that drier air from the northeast caused the rain to dissipate.

Although most of the rain has moved out of our area, there may still be some heavy rain and storms on the Treasure Coast in the late afternoon and evening hours on Thursday.
“Later this evening, we could see some heavy rain across the Treasure Coast and into parts of Palm Beach County,” Wentzel said. “We’re not out of the woods yet. Today is pretty much a transition day, and tomorrow we’ll see much better conditions.”
Wentzel added that the weekend looks great with a weak front bringing cooler, less humid air our way.
