Cool autumn weather at the beginning of the week and chances of rain

Wausau, Wisconsin (WSAW) – The weekend will end with cloudy and cool weather across the Wisconsin River Valley. There’s a chance of showers on Sunday, so it’s not a bad idea to have a light jacket or umbrella handy. Large clouds will continue to be the main theme in the early days of the work week, with additional opportunities for showers. Ending Tuesday night into Wednesday morning with patchy sleet likely in the Northwoods. Pleasant weather is available later in the week with a fair amount of sunshine and comfortable temperatures in mid-September.

Drought has worsened in north-central Wisconsin in the past week. Much of the area falls into the moderate to severe drought category, while the locations shaded in red are extremely dry. The rainfall deficit since the beginning of May ranges from 4 to 9 inches.

Sunday will be cloudy with a chance of rain as the day goes on. The afternoon is much cooler with temperatures reaching lows into the mid 60’s.

The weather will be cloudy in most directions on Sunday night, with the possibility of rain in the southern parts of the region. lowest in the mid fifties.

On Monday, there will be more clouds than breaks of sunshine with a chance of scattered rain in the afternoon. Its highest levels are in the mid-60s.

Clouds will continue until Tuesday and keep the weather cool. The highest is in the 50s north, and the lowest is in the 60s in central Wisconsin. First alert for Wednesday morning if you’re in the Northwoods. With clear skies from Tuesday night to Wednesday morning and light winds, conditions may be favorable for temperatures to drop back into the low 30s. This can lead to incomplete frost. There may also be readings in the upper 30s in cooler areas of central Wisconsin as well. We will continue to monitor temperature trends for mid-week to see if a first weather alert day is necessary due to frost concerns in the North.

Good amount of sunshine Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Temperatures will rise from the mid-60s on Wednesday, to the lows of the 70s on Thursday, and the mid-70s on Friday. Saturday has some sun with a chance of rain. Highs are in the mid to mid 70s. It will be partly cloudy next Sunday, with maximum temperatures in the 70’s.
