Cooling centers are listed in Chicago as excessive heat warning goes into effect in Illinois – NBC Chicago

The City of Chicago has activated additional cooling centers and extended cooling center hours ahead of an excessive heat warning that will soon go into effect for all of northeastern Illinois.

Starting at 11 a.m. Wednesday, an excessive heat warning will go into effect across northeastern Illinois and much of northwest Indiana, with the National Weather Service warning of “dangerously hot conditions” and heat index values ​​between 105 and 115 degrees.

The National Meteorological Authority said that the excessive heat warning will remain in effect in all regions until eight o’clock on Thursday evening.

According to officials, temperatures are expected to reach 98 degrees in the afternoon, and heat indexes range between 105 and 115 degrees.

“The weather is going to be absolutely brutal later this afternoon,” NBC 5 Meteorologist Alicia Roman said, with forecast models showing a dew point temperature of 80 degrees by 1 p.m. Wednesday.
