FIRST WEATHER ALERT – Cold and rainy conditions will continue into Sunday morning

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) – A wedge will continue to form leading to more cold and rainy conditions tonight through the first half of Sunday before we start to dry out during the afternoon.

· More light rain is possible Sunday morning.
· Dry start to the new work week.
· The chance of rain returns on Wednesday and Thursday.
Summary of the first alert
It was a very dreary day in the Midlands with steady light rain and cold temperatures in the 50s.
Scattered light rain will continue tonight with a low to mid to upper 40s.
We continue to hit or miss rain through the first half of Sunday but then some drier conditions should develop in the afternoon with temperatures holding steady in the 50s.

Some sunshine could break through the clouds on Monday helping temperatures rise into the mid 60s.
Clouds quickly slide back over the Carolinas on Tuesday with highs in the mid 60s.

By Wednesday and Thursday, we will be watching for the possibility of some showers trying to get back into the Midlands.
A Gulf Low will develop and slide along the coast but with high pressure to our north it may push some dry air down and possibly prevent rain from reaching the Midlands.

Rain chances will be around 30% on Wednesday and Thursday.
Sunshine looks to return on Friday to highs next weekend warming into the 70s.
In the tropics, the National Hurricane Center is monitoring an area in the southern Caribbean Sea for approximately 40% potential development over the next 5-7 days.
