Greater Manchester hour-by-hour weather forecast as a warning from 2pm today – and when storms are due where you live
After days of brilliant sunshine, the Met Office’s weather warning for thunderstorms comes into force in Greater Manchester at 2pm today – Saturday.
The warning area covers central Greater Manchester and extends north to Bolton and to the Wigan border in the west.
The Met Office warning said: “Some heavy rain and thunderstorms are likely, which may lead to some disturbance.

“Spray and flash flooding may lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures.
“When floods or lightning strikes, there is a possibility of delays and cancellation of some train and bus services. There is a small possibility of power outages and loss of other services to some homes and businesses.
“There is a small possibility that homes and businesses will quickly be inundated, with some buildings being damaged by floodwaters, lightning, hail or strong winds.”
Temperatures are expected to reach 25C in Manchester from 2pm, with light cloud cover ending an hour later at 3pm, according to a Met Office forecast.
Temperatures will only start to drop by 7pm, with the sun setting at 7.40pm.
For Saturday, the Met Office forecast it would be a “very warm, humid and mostly dry day, with a slight chance of heavy showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon”.
The Met Office said on Friday that the heatwave would continue into the weekend across much of southern England and Wales, with temperatures likely to peak near 33C on Saturday, the hottest day of the year so far.
Met Office chief meteorologist Paul Gundersen said: “Although much of the UK will see continued high temperatures and sunny skies on Saturday, in what is likely to be the hottest day of the year so far, there is also the possibility of “Some thunderstorms, which could be very hot.” This led to a yellow warning being issued for most of central England and parts of east Wales.
“Temperatures will start to trend downward from Saturday in the far northwest of Scotland, with a cold front gradually moving south over the weekend, bringing with it the risk of some heavy rain and thunderstorms on Sunday too.
“However, the Southeast will continue to experience high temperatures for longer and could reach 32C on Sunday.”
The weather in Greater Manchester is expected to take a colder turn from Monday, with a high forecast of 21C, before the mercury drops again on Tuesday to 18C.
