Hurricane Lee tracker: Live track updates as East Coast braces for ‘life-threatening’ rip currents.

Hurricane Lee has been downgraded to Category 3

A tropical storm warning has been issued for Bermuda, and the US East Coast is bracing for “life-threatening” rip currents and dangerous surf as Hurricane Lee continues to chart its path across the Atlantic.

The National Hurricane Center said early Wednesday morning that Lee is now a “very large hurricane” and producing large waves that will impact parts of the western Atlantic throughout the week.

The agency said the floods are affecting parts of the Lesser Antilles, the British and US Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, Hispaniola, the Turks and Caicos Islands, the Bahamas and Bermuda.

Meanwhile, dangerous rip and rip currents are affecting parts of the southeastern US coast, with conditions expected to spread north along the East Coast and Atlantic Canada over the coming days.

Forecasters believe Lee will make landfall in Nova Scotia, Canada, as a tropical storm on Sunday, bringing widespread winds and flooding to large parts of New England-Rhode Island, eastern Massachusetts, southeastern New Hampshire, and central and coastal Maine.

Behind Lee is Hurricane Margot, the fifth hurricane of the 2023 season. Margot is heading north at the moment, but the outlook after Friday is “highly uncertain,” the National Weather Service said.

The National Hurricane Center says Lee is likely to remain “large” and “dangerous” through the end of the week

The National Hurricane Center said Typhoon Lee is likely to remain “major” and “dangerous” through the end of the week.

“Typhoon Li is expected to slowly weaken over the next few days, but Li is likely to remain a major and dangerous typhoon through the end of the week,” the center said.

“Lee’s projected post-tropical transition will not reduce the impacts of wind, rain, and potential coastal flooding in New England and Atlantic Canada due to the system’s broad wind range.”

Hurricane Lee is expected to weaken in the coming days as it enters cooler waters, but wind, rain and flooding are still expected in New England and Atlantic Canada.

Hurricane force winds extend up to 115 miles (185 kilometers) from the center of Lee, and tropical storm force winds extend up to 240 miles (390 kilometers), the center reported.

Meteorologists warned of dangerous waves and currents in the Lesser Antilles, the British and US Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, Hispaniola, the Turks and Caicos Islands, the Bahamas, Bermuda and parts of the southeastern coast of the United States. Conditions are expected to spread to the East Coast of the United States and Atlantic Canada in the coming days.

Hurricane Lee is expected to weaken in the coming days

Hurricane Lee is expected to weaken in the coming days as it enters colder waters, the National Hurricane Center said.

“Despite expected weakening, keep in mind that Lee’s expanding wind field will produce impacts very far from the center of the storm,” the center said.

Lee was generating dangerous waves and rip currents in the Lesser Antilles, the British and US Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, Hispaniola, the Turks and Caicos Islands, the Bahamas, Bermuda, and parts of the southeastern coast of the United States. These conditions were expected to soon spread to the East Coast of the United States.

“It is still too early to know what level of additional impacts Lee may have along the northeastern coast of the United States and Atlantic Canada late this week and this weekend,” the National Hurricane Center said.
