NFL Weather Week 2: Expected rain and wind unlikely to impact fantasy starting decisions

Last week saw a little more rain than initially expected, and while it’s unclear how much the wet conditions affected players, it wasn’t as if any games were a total loss. The weather forecast for Week 2 of the NFL is looking milder, with a few games at risk of seeing significant wind and/or rain. RotoGrinders Meteorologist Kevin Roth is here to help us break down all the major weather updates before fantasy football owners initially make their decisions.

Before we get into the Week 2 forecast, here’s a reminder that if you have any questions about sports weather or how weather could impact play (and perhaps your dreams, DFS and gambling options), feel free to reach out to RotoGrinders Meteorologist Kevin Roth on Twitter (@Kevin Rothox) Or check the hourly NFL weather forecast on RotoGrinders. NB: If one of the rides isn’t mentioned below, it’s because it doesn’t even have 10 mph winds or a 20 percent chance of rain in the forecast.

Weather forecast and updates for Week 2 of the NFL

Expectations, God willing Kevin Roth at RotoGrinders

Bears @ Pirates. This game has the highest chance of rain this week, starting at about 35 percent at kickoff but increasing to 65 percent later in the game. Fortunately, there won’t be a lot of wind accompanying it, but with temperatures reaching 80 degrees, we could see more cramps than usual. Ultimately, you’ll have to stick with all the usual starters (Mike Evans, Chris Godwin, Justin Fields, etc.), but potentially wet conditions boost the outlook for both D/STs.

Standard classification for the second week:

Chiefs @Jaguar. Despite a 50% chance of rain and nearly 10 mph winds, there’s no reason to put any of the key pieces on these tough passing games. We’ll have to keep an eye on the forecast to make sure things don’t get worse heading into kickoff, but it should be all systems go for the Chiefs and Jags.

Dolphins @Patriots. The remnants of Hurricane Lee will have mostly diminished by the time this game begins. There is still a slight chance of rain and winds of around 10 mph in the forecast, but there is no need to worry about that.
