Severe Weather Alert: Flood Warnings across multiple parishes

ALEXANDRIA, La. (WNTZ) – The National Weather Service has issued severe weather warnings for various parishes in Louisiana, indicating possible flooding due to heavy rainfall. We advise residents to stay informed and take precautionary measures when these warnings take effect.

Rapides Parish – Severe River Flood Warning:


  • Active alert: Thursday, January 25, 2024, 6:00 AM CST
  • location: Calcasieu River near Glenmora
  • impact: Moderate flooding is expected. At 16.0 feet, areas including portions of Highway 112 between Highway 121 and Beachwood Church may experience flooding.
  • Current stage: 5.2 feet (Tuesday, 8:45 a.m. CST)
  • Climate prediction: The river is expected to rise above flood stage Thursday morning, reaching 16.0 feet by Sunday evening, with additional rises possible after that. Flood stage 12.0 feet.

Avoyelles Parish – Moderate Flood Watch:

  • Effective viewing: Tuesday, January 23, 2024, 6:00 PM CST through Wednesday afternoon
  • Effects: Heavy rains may cause flooding in rivers, streams and low-lying areas. Poor sanitation and urban areas may also experience flooding.
  • Additional details: Rainfall amounts of 6 to 10 inches are expected across the region, with higher amounts locally. The clock can be expanded in time and space.

Grant Parrish – Moderate Flood Watch:

  • Effective viewing: Tuesday, January 23, 2024, 6:00 a.m. CST through Wednesday afternoon
  • Effects: Excessive runoff may lead to flooding of rivers, streams and low-lying areas. Streams and creeks may rise from their banks, and flooding may occur in poorly drained urban areas.
  • Additional details: A very active pattern will bring several rounds of heavy rain through at least Wednesday night, with additional amounts of 3-5 inches expected, and locally higher amounts likely.

Vernon Parish – Moderate Flood Watch:

  • Effective viewing: Tuesday, January 23, 2024, 6:00 PM CST through Wednesday afternoon
  • Effects: Excessive runoff may lead to flooding of rivers, streams and low-lying areas. Urban flooding and poor sanitation may occur.
  • Additional details: Rainfall amounts of 6 to 10 inches are expected across the region, with higher amounts locally. The clock can be expanded in time and space.
