The storm will intensify in the plains and move towards the northeast

A major storm will pack snow and gusty winds across the central United States before moving up the East Coast with widespread impacts.

After a rainy Friday night in Delaware with a wind warning and coastal flood warning, the forecast shows a chance of snow for the next three straight days.

The power outage reportedly affected more than 550 Delmarva Energy customers in Delaware, and most of the outages were fixed by Saturday morning.

At approximately 10:45 a.m. Saturday, only 32 outages were reported, with seven customers affected in New Castle County and 25 in Kent County.

The speed limit on I-495 was also reduced to 55 mph due to rain Friday night, according to the Delaware Department of Transportation.

According to the National Meteorological Directorate, snow is likely to fall in the area Sunday night into Tuesday, with varying probabilities.

New Castle County Forecast

Below is the Weather Service’s extended forecast for the Wilmington area, which expects snow over the next few days.

  • Saturday: A partly sunny day and mostly clear night with a coastal flood warning until 5pm and a wind warning until 3pm. The high is 56 degrees and the low is 31 degrees. Winds will likely reach 45 mph.
  • Sunday: 30% chance of snow or rain, with breezy conditions expected. The high is 41 degrees and the low is 21 degrees. Winds will likely reach 40 mph.
  • Monday: For Martin Luther King Jr. Day, it will be a mostly cloudy day with a 40% chance of snow overnight. The high is 32 degrees and the low is 25 degrees.
  • Tuesday: Snowfall is expected to reach 70%. The high is 33 degrees and the low is 19 degrees.

Kent County Forecast

Below is the Weather Service’s expanded forecast for the Dover area, which includes wind advisories, coastal flood warnings and a high chance of snow over the next few days.

  • Saturday: A wind warning has been issued until 5pm, with a coastal flood warning until 2pm, and it is expected to be a mostly sunny day with wind gusts up to 45mph. The high is 57 degrees and the low is 32 degrees.
  • Sunday: 20% snow is expected before 2pm, with breezy conditions. The high is 45 degrees and the low is 22 degrees.
  • Monday: For MLK Day, weather is expected to be mostly cloudy during the day, with a 40% chance of snow falling overnight. The high is 34 degrees and the low is 26 degrees.
  • Tuesday: Snow is likely, with a 70% chance expected. The high is 35 degrees and the low is 20 degrees.

Below is the Weather Service’s expanded forecast for the Georgetown area, showing a high probability of snow and some warnings.

  • Saturday: A wind warning has been issued until 5pm, with a coastal flood warning until 7pm, and the weather is expected to be breezy with wind gusts up to 45mph. The high is 61 degrees and the low is 32 degrees.
  • Sunday: The percentage of rain or snow is expected to reach 30%. The high is 47 degrees and the low is 22 degrees.
  • Monday: MLK Day has a 40% chance of snow. The high is 37 degrees and the low is 27 degrees.
  • Tuesday: Snow is likely, with a 70% chance. The high is 38 degrees and the low is 20 degrees.
