The extreme heat is closing some Connecticut schools early this week

Many students in Connecticut returned to school this week, but extreme heat is forcing some areas to impose early expulsions. Some schools have also modified training schedules for their athletic teams at later times in an effort to beat the heat.

Here is a list of area schools that will have a modified schedule this week due to weather:

Milford Public Schools

Wednesdays and Thursdays, the Milford Public Schools Early Class will follow the schedule below: Elementary School: 1:25 PM (including Ready to Learn) Middle School: 12:45 PM Jonathan Law/Joseph Foran HS: 11:58 AM Academic: 11:00 AM There will be no schedule for afternoon preschool classes.

Fairfield Public Schools

Wednesday Jennings Primary School, Osborne Hill Primary School, North Stratfield Primary School, Dwight Primary School, Woods Middle School, students from Ward High School and Ludlow High School. Middle and high school students will be discharged at 11:45 am and elementary school students will be discharged at 12:55 pm. There will be no schedule for afternoon pre-school classes.

Trumbull Public Schools

Trumbull Public Schools will follow an early dismissal schedule on Wednesday, September 6 and Thursday, September 7 for all schools.

Norwalk Public Schools

Early Class for two hours on Wednesday, September 6th. Naramake Primary School Rowayton Primary Tracey Primary Wolfpit Primary West Rocks Middle School

Newtown Public Schools

Three-Hour Early Expulsion Due to the extreme heat, all Newtown Public Schools will have a three-hour early expulsion on September 5, 6, and 7.

Southbury District 15 Heat Index Revised Class Schedule, Wednesday 9/6 and Thursday 9/7 All District 15 schools will follow the Heat Index Revised Class Schedule for Wednesday, September 6 and Thursday, September 7. School exit times are as follows:

Bomberogue High School follows a regular schedule 7:20 AM – 2:05 PM Lunch served Middle Schools: 8:05 AM – 12:15 PM Primary Schools: 9 AM – 1 PM Lunch served Pre-school/Friends Together programme: morning session 9am – 10:40am; Evening session 10:45am – 1pm BAS is open and after school activities may take place on a modified schedule based on school and individual activity. Schedule adjustments will be communicated to the individual participant separately.

Torrington Public Schools

As a result of the extreme heat and humidity expected for the remainder of this week, TPS will have an early season on Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays.


All District 14 Community Early Class days 6/9 and 7/9 Lunch will be served on both days and all afternoon activities will be cancelled. The early term schedule is given below for each school. Nonnewaug High School and Woodbury Middle School – 11:55 a.m. Bethlehem and Mitchell Elementary Schools – 12:55 p.m. Pre-K 4 (BES/MES) – 12:55 p.m. Pre-K 3 No afternoon session
