Westport, CT – Academy Award-nominated director Sam Green continually pushes the boundaries of the theatrical experience with live-action scores/narrated documentaries such as Love song R. Buckminster Fuller With Yo La Tengo, A thousand ideas With the Chronos Quad, and Green’s signature tour de force, Underground weatherchronicles the rise and fall of radical political organizing.
On Friday, December 8, at 6:30 p.m., the Lundberg Family Foundation’s Major Film Series welcomes Green’s latest documentary selection for Sundance and SXSW, 32 votes. Green will attend a post-show Q&A session with the audience. This event is free and requires registration.
32 votes It is described as “a meditation on the power of sound to bend time, cross borders, and profoundly shape our perception of the world around us.” By creating a “rich, sensory and unique experience,” the film delivers on its promise. Each audience member is given their own set of headphones for a special immersive binaural audio experience (a type of spatial audio technology that gives the listener a clearer sense of space).
A pioneer in the field of form and technology, Green developed the film through a creative residency at MASS MOCA in North Adams, Massachusetts, with Stanford University, the University of Arizona, and New York University, among others, serving as partners on the film commission.
“Normally, we think of films as a visual medium, and to some extent they are. “Voice is always seen as a second-class citizen,” Green told Seventh Row. “This was a difficult film to make. It’s almost like that cliché of a sculptor letting the sculpture come out of the stone, which sounds corny, but there’s something about it. When you work with the material, you start to realize why you’re drawn to this, and what influences you.” “This requires a lot of time and struggle.”

He has premiered dozens of films at the Sundance Film Festival since 2012, and won five awards from the festival. He produced South wild monsters (Grand Jury Prize at Sundance, Cannes Camera d’Or, and four Academy Award nominations, including Best Picture), Monsters and men (Sundance Special Jury Prize), and the series Philly da (Gotham and Peabody Award winner).
Westport Library’s Lundberg Family Foundation Masters Film Series showcases films and filmmakers, celebrating contemporary masters, innovative new voices, and emerging artists. Previously, the series premiered in Connecticut by Larry Locke’s documentary, The Sky Is Standing Up: The Incarnation of Willie DeVillefollowed by master class sessions.
