The weather forecast for Erie, Pennsylvania calls for high winds, low chills, wind and snow

Snow continues to be in the forecast Sunday in some locations around northwestern Pennsylvania, but it’s the wind and cold winds that will catch our attention.

Here’s the latest news from the National Weather Service forecast office in Cleveland as of Sunday at 7:30 a.m

Weather forecast for Erie County and nearby

A wind warning is in effect Sunday until 4 p.m. for northern Erie County as well as Ashtabula County, Ohio. Winds will be southwesterly at 25 to 35 knots, sometimes reaching 50 knots. The strongest winds are expected to occur near Lake Erie.

The State College Weather Service reports a wind advisory is in place for Warren County until Sunday at 3 p.m. West winds can range from 15 mph to 25 mph at times reaching 50 mph.

A Wind Chill Advisory is also in effect Sunday until 4 p.m. for Erie and Crawford Counties and Ashtabula County. Wind chills will be as low as 10 below zero at times and could cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 30 minutes, the weather service noted.

Low temperatures on Sunday night are expected to reach single digits in most parts of the region.

Where you live will determine how much new snow you might see on Sunday.

Snow showers are possible around Erie, especially before 2 p.m., accumulating one to two inches. Meanwhile, Edinboro, Waterford and Albion areas could see half an inch of new snow, according to the NWS.

However, the Northeast could see 2 to 4 inches, and Harborcreek Township 1 to 3 inches.

In New York State, Chautauqua County remains under a winter storm warning until 7 p.m. Monday, according to the Buffalo Weather Service. Heavy lake snow is likely, with new accumulation totaling 5 inches to 10 inches in the more persistent lake snow. The highest totals should be farther north, with little accumulation near the Pennsylvania border.
