These Bay Area cities will see some of the warmer weather today

A band of high pressure is expected to expand across the Bay Area on Tuesday, bringing sunshine and warmer-than-average temperatures to parts of the region.

Bay Area residents can expect ideal weather conditions Tuesday as a series of high pressure builds over the region. Whether you’re on the coast or staying inland, expect this system to bring sunny skies, light winds, and comfortable temperatures.

A warm breeze along the San Francisco Bay and Delta region will clear away any fog trying to form Tuesday morning, bringing sunny weather and daytime temperatures in the mid to upper 60s along the shore. This will be a great opportunity for residents to stroll along the beach, take an afternoon picnic, or just relax and enjoy the sun. Plan on winds by 3 p.m., with gusts up to 20 mph at times in places like Alameda Beach and Dolores Park.

The forecast calls for a comfortable day in November.  Bay Area residents can expect daytime highs ranging from the upper 60s along the shoreline to the mid 70s inland.

Residents of inland areas can also expect nice weather on Tuesday, along with slightly warmer temperatures. Highs are scheduled to reach the low 70s in the Tri-Valley area and the highlands of Napa and Sonoma counties. Mid-70s and calm winds will provide great conditions for biking and hiking in the South Bay and Santa Cruz mountains. Have a coat ready for when temperatures drop after sunset.

High pressure is likely to continue to grow in the coming days, especially inland. This means that temperatures in select areas may remain above average through Thanksgiving.

San Francisco: The weather is expected to be warm with sunny skies and light northeasterly winds throughout the day. These conditions will raise the mercury level into the upper 60s downtown. In Noe Valley and the Mission District, there is a slight possibility of temperatures just below 70 degrees — about 3 to 5 degrees above average for November.

San Franciscans on the west side can look for cooler temperatures in the mid-60s this afternoon as a sea breeze gently extends into the outer Sunset and Richmond areas. Cloud cover will increase in the evening as temperatures across the city drop to 50 tonight.

East Bay: Sunshine and breezes off the Oakland and Berkeley hills will bring comfortable temperatures for Gulf Beach residents this afternoon. Look for highs in the upper 60s along the I-880 and I-80 corridors and mid 60s in Alameda and Jack London Square. This warm spell will also affect inland areas east of the Caldecott Tunnel, where Livermore and Walnut Creek residents can expect similar temperatures.

Cloud cover will increase as the sun sets around 5 p.m., then temperatures will quickly drop into the lower 40s overnight in the inland valleys, while residents closer to the water can expect lows in the upper 40s.

North Gulf: Warm winds are expected to blow across the highlands of Marin, Napa and Sonoma counties and the plains of Solano County throughout the day. Santa Rosa, Novato and Fairfield can expect an abundance of sunshine with the temperature climbing into the 70s this afternoon. Cooler temperatures in the mid to upper 60s are available in Gulf Beach areas such as Sausalito, Tiburon and Vallejo.

Sky watchers can look for cirrus clouds around 4 p.m., which can lead to a stunning sunset over Mount Tam. Get ready tonight because temperatures are expected to drop into the lower 40s and upper 40s by the water.

Pacific Coast and Peninsula: Aside from some breezy spots along Highway 1 and San Bruno Gap, residents throughout the peninsula can look for cool, calm weather. Afternoon temperatures are expected to reach the high 60s, although some locations near Redwood City, Menlo Park and Stanford could reach 70 degrees briefly.

After sunset, expect temperatures to drop into the upper 40s along the Interstate 92 corridor and lower 50s by the water.

South Bay and Santa Cruz: The Santa Clara Valley can expect some of the warmest weather in the Bay Area on Tuesday. Afternoon highs are expected to be near the mid-70s around San Jose, Morgan Hill, Gilroy and Los Gatos — roughly 5 to 7 degrees above average for November. Some warmth will radiate into the Santa Cruz Mountains, where Felton, Scotts Valley and Ben Lomond could look for temperatures in the lower 70s.

The cold winds off Monterey Bay will regulate temperatures at the beach. The cities of Capitola, Aptos and La Selva can expect highs in the mid-60s.

The sky is expected to be cloudy in the evening. Expect a slight swing in temperatures between day and night as the mercury drops into the lower 40s in the mountains and upper 40s to 50s in the water.
