Winter storms continue to wreak havoc across Kentucky, especially as light snow continues to fall Tuesday morning in the eastern and southeastern parts of the state, according to a statement from Gov. Andy Beshear.
With temperatures dropping into the single digits, Kentucky’s updated version of the state of emergency indicates road conditions will remain treacherous, especially across the southern half of Kentucky.

Yes, Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear declared a state of emergency and activated Level 4 preparedness on Sunday, January 14, 2024.
What is a Level 4 emergency in Kentucky?
According to the state’s website, the Emergency Operations Center has been activated to Level 4 when essential emergency management personnel are required to report to the center in Frankfort, Kentucky. All other emergency support function personnel are placed on standby and ready for increased activation.
What does a state of emergency mean in Kentucky?
When a state of emergency is declared, the state is allowed to activate state resources — including Kentucky Emergency Management — to help protect Kentucky communities and families, according to the Kentucky government.
Kentucky State Parks: Look for Walter Dale at Cumberland Falls in Whitley County
According to the governor’s update, a missing person report has been issued to Kentucky State Parks for Walter Dewayne Dill, 35, Williamsburg, Kentucky.
Dale was reported missing on Sunday, January 14, near Cumberland Falls in Whitley County. Both Whitley and McCreary emergency management officials are involved in the search for Dale.
A Gold Alert issued by Kentucky State Police said Dale was last seen near the Eagle Falls Trail, wearing blue jeans, a camouflage jacket and a backpack.
Dale is described as being 5-foot-8 and weighing about 150 pounds. He has brown eyes and hair.
Kentucky State Police and local response teams also rescued 4 people stranded in the Red River Gorge.

Low temperatures in the single digits accompanied by wind chills near or below zero remained the main issue Tuesday morning, according to NWS-Louisville.
Cold wind chills can cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 30 minutes.
There will be another chance of snow Thursday afternoon into Friday NWS-Louisville.
Expect more extreme cold this weekend as another polar blast is expected to occur Thursday night or Friday morning.
