Virginia snow storm weather forecast 2024

Update: The National Weather Service issued a winter weather advisory around 2:30 p.m. Thursday.

AUGUSTA COUNTY — It’s that time of year when snowfall, no snowfall or how much snow is the question everyone is trying to figure out so they can plan accordingly.

According to AccuWeather Senior Meteorologist Tom Kines, total accumulation in the valley looks like 1 inch of 3 inches of snow. If you go north, like Winchester, it will be closer to a few inches, he said.

“I think the snow will come later tonight,” Kennis said. “If you have to do anything this evening, that’s fine. And then it’ll keep snowing until tomorrow. We’re thinking about an inch.”

This time, Kennis said, the emphasis is on the slight.

“Most of the snow will fall later tonight and tomorrow morning,” Kennis said. “There may be lingering flurries Friday afternoon and evening.”

He said Friday’s temperatures were not too bad. But on Saturday, you’ll need to pack your bags if you have to be outside. The cold wind will make it even colder.

The expected snow prompted the National Weather Service to issue a winter weather warning Thursday afternoon. The warnings will run from 1 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, covering Augusta and Rockingham counties, along with the Central Virginia Blue Ridge.

The alert warns travelers to slow down, pay attention to slippery road conditions while driving, and watch for slippery steps on sidewalks, stairs and walkways.
