Weather Alert: Further flooding possible with heavy rain
Flood watch for all of Rhode Island and southeastern Massachusetts until 2 a.m. Rainfall of 1-3 inches is expected. On top of what has fallen over the past two weeks, flooding could easily occur, including some flash flooding. Please, do not attempt to drive across a flooded road.
Good evening We could see more flooding as the afternoon and evening progress.
It would only take about 1.5 to 2.0 inches of rain in one hour to cause some flooding…the best chance for that would be in Providence County and Bristol County in Massachusetts, including Fall River and New Bedford. Last week’s rain has raised water levels quite high, so any additional water in these areas will trickle down and cause some flooding.

today
Rain will begin to become more widespread and heavy during the afternoon and into the evening. Temperatures today will peak in the mid to upper 60s.

We will see a cold front moving east during the day with a wave of low pressure rising up the coast.

This low will help enhance the intensity of the rain during the afternoon.

Inland areas of Rhode Island and Bristol County, Massachusetts have received between 3 and 11 degrees of rain in the past two weeks, so this additional rain will definitely cause some flooding. As mentioned earlier, some of these floods may be flash floods where the water rises quickly.

We will see heavy rain continue into the evening. Please remember: Never attempt to drive across a flooded road. Find another route to your destination. We will likely find several roads with street flooding early this evening.

Rainfall should taper off to showers immediately after the Prime Minister’s trip, but flooding issues are likely to persist.

How much rain are we talking about? Many computer models indicate we can expect 1 to 3 inches of rain. Please do not take the output from this computer model literally, but it does illustrate the idea that more additional rain is coming.

Tonight

tomorrow
Tuesday will be a beautiful day….a dry day. We will have plenty of sunshine and light northwest winds.

Highs will be in the mid 70s with low humidity levels.
