Weather Alert: Indoor temperature warning today
Weather alert: Heat warning for inland areas today. The heat/humidity mix will feel like 95-99 today and Thursday afternoon. Communities in the heat advisory area include Providence, Warwick, West Warwick, Cranston, Woonsocket, Taunton and Attleboro.
Good morning! We’re looking at another very warm and humid day today…and the heat/humidity will continue into Thursday.
In fact, a heat warning has been issued for parts of our region. The heat/humidity mix will feel like 95-100 degrees within Rhode Island and southeastern Massachusetts this afternoon. Communities like Warwick, Cranston, Providence, Woonsocket and Taunton are likely to see those oppressive feelings as are the temperatures.
Although the temperature was warm Tuesday, Providence did not reach 90 degrees, making it 383 days without a 90-degree temperature reading at TF Green Airport. Could today be the day? It is certainly possible. The highest levels will be between 86-92 inside the country today. Again, dress your kids in shorts and short-sleeved shirts today when you send them to school…and maybe give them an extra bottle of water.
This afternoon, the heat index is up (it looks like the temperature will rise into the upper 90s inside). If you can, stay in air conditioning, do any exercise in the morning or evening and stay hydrated.
On the coast, it will be a little cooler, but still very humid with heat index values in the low to mid 90s.
| | bay and beach
On the beaches, expect hazy sunshine with afternoon temperatures in the mid-80s. Water temp around 70. Some patchy fog likely this morning.
As for the bays, the wind will be northerly early, reaching the beach in the afternoon at about 5 knots. The waves will be small. Visibility will be poor in any patchy fog.

Tonight
Warm and humid conditions will continue throughout the night with lows around 70.
tomorrow
If we don’t get to 90 today, we have another chance tomorrow.
The temperature index on Thursday afternoon ranges between 95 and 100.
We expect some relief from the heat on Friday, but it will still be very humid.
