After setting some records and reaching the 90s for the first time this calendar year in parts of the region, unseasonably warm temperatures continue today. It won't be quite as hot, although it will likely be the mid to upper 80s before the day is over. A cold front is slowly swinging in from the west, encountering this warm, charged air over the DMV. This will be enough for isolated showers and storms to develop west of I-81 during the mid-afternoon before turning east toward D.C. and I-95 in the evening. While one or two storms could become strong, severe weather is not a concern in this round of activity as the components are not there to support this threat. Any stronger storms could produce gusty winds and frequent lightning. This activity tapers off to isolated showers overnight with some patchy fog developing.

Intermittent rain and clouds will continue until Wednesday morning before dissipating. Despite the quick return to sunny skies, temperatures will be much cooler behind the cold front, with afternoon highs in the upper 70s to lower 80s. A final burst of warmth is expected on Thursday, with highs in the mid-80s. Overnight lows will be more manageable through the weekend, in the upper 50s to lower 60s. Calm and partly cloudy conditions will be common through the day on Friday before the next storm system begins over the weekend.

A new cold front will arrive on Saturday, with temperatures dropping into the 60s and bringing scattered rain and storms. The first half of the weekend looks more unstable, with the front speeding up its arrival time in models. Some pockets of heavy rain are possible, but severe weather and any other threats remain minimal outside of that range. Rain and clouds will continue with the front nearby on Sunday, with peak temperatures only in the upper 60s and lower 70s. Skies will become clear as temperatures rise at the beginning of next week.

Have a great rest on Tuesday!
