Rain hampered the India-Pakistan match in the 2023 AFC Asian Cup Super 4 at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. The weather forecast for Sunday was grim, with rain and thunderstorms at different parts of the day.
However, the proceedings started encouragingly. There was no rain at all in Colombo in the morning. On the contrary, conditions were very bright and sunny. Even the draw for the India vs Pakistan match took place on time – at 2:30 PM IST. Pakistan won the toss and decided to bowl first.
Unfortunately, only 24.1 overs were bowled in India’s innings before rain halted proceedings and it was not possible to play again on the day. The Men in Blue got off to an excellent start as skipper Rohit Sharma (56 off 49) and Shubman Gill (58 off 52) added 121 runs for the opening wicket in 16.4 overs. But both batsmen fell in quick succession to Shadab Khan and Shaheen Afridi respectively.
When the rain stopped play in Colombo in the third match of the Super 4 round, Virat Kohli was hitting 8 off 16 balls and KL Rahul on 17 off 28 deliveries. India were 1472/ after 24.1 overs.
The result can be achieved on the same Sunday if both teams can play 20 overs each. India have already played more than 20 overs, and if Pakistan also play at least 20 overs in their innings, we will get a result.
