Windy and cold today; Hot and refreshing weather next week

ROCHESTER, Minn. (KTTC) – One day after a weak storm system brought clouds and drizzle to the area, we’re treated to the brightest and windiest day of the week. Cold air is blowing into the area from the plains following the storm system’s departure, making Thursday windy and cold. Expect mostly sunny skies with high temperatures in the upper 40s. West winds are expected to reach 30 to 40 mph at times today, especially around noon, making it feel like the 30s.

The wind will ease this evening with partly cloudy skies during the night hours. Low temperatures tonight will be in the upper 20s with wind chills in the teens.

Friday will see some sunshine and clouds as cool air slowly settles in from the northwest. High temperatures tomorrow will be in the upper 30s to around 40 degrees in the area with a cool northwest breeze that will give us wind chill values ​​in the 20s and low 30s.

Southerly winds will develop this weekend as warm air begins to flow north into the region. Expect sunshine and increased cloud cover on Saturday. High temperatures will be in the mid 40s with a southerly breeze gusting up to 25 mph. Sunday will be warmer and breezy. The clouds will clear in the afternoon, and under a mostly sunny sky, high temperatures will be in the mid 50s.

A shift in the upper-level atmospheric pattern will allow some incredibly warm air to flow north into the upper Midwest. Mostly sunny skies will be the norm at least to start the week while gusty southerly winds continue to pump out warmth. High temperatures will rise from the mid 50s on Monday to the upper 50s and lower 60s on Wednesday and Thursday. Readings will cool to the mid-50s next Friday with partly sunny skies. The following weekend will be even colder with temperatures rising into the 40s.
